Looking for beginner-friendly bluebonnet crafts? Learn to make your own beautiful bluebonnet decor you can enjoy all year long with this ridiculously easy felt bluebonnet flower tutorial!
Today I have an easy tutorial that you will love – DIY felt bluebonnet flowers!
It’s bluebonnet time here in Texas. If you are lucky enough to live here, you’ve probably seen the beautiful fields of bluebonnets that bloom in Central Texas and the Texas Hill Country.
In the Spring you can drive through Brenham and drive through hills of blue as far as you can see covered in bluebonnets. It really is a spectacular sight.
But of course not everyone will get to experience it for themselves. If you don’t live close enough or aren’t able to drive through Texas in March or April you’ll probably miss the fields blooming. But that’s ok because you can still have a little Texas Hill Country in your own home!
I have a super easy tutorial for making adorable DIY felt bluebonnets — they don’t even require a pattern. Make an arrangement and display them in your home all year long.

Materials Needed to Make Felt Bluebonnets
- Royal blue felt
- White felt
- Skewer or wire floral stem
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
Make Easy DIY Felt Bluebonnet Flowers
First, cut a long rectangle out of your blue felt and a shorter rectangle out of your white felt.
Next, take the white felt rectangle and put a strip of hot glue along one of the long sides. Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise and hold for a few seconds to help it stick.
Next, do the same thing with your blue felt rectangle. Place a strip of hot glue along on of the long sides. Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise and hold for a few seconds.
Now take the white piece of felt and cut slits along the folded over edge (opposite side of the glued edge) and do the same with your blue piece of felt.
I used a wooden skewer as the bluebonnet stem. If you would like to have green stem, you could use some green floral tape to cover the wooden skewer, or just use a green wire floral stem instead.
Assemble Your DIY Felt Bluebonnet
Now, to put your bluebonnet together, start with the stem and the white piece of felt. The white felt will be the top of our bluebonnet. Place a small amount of hot glue along the bottom edge of the white felt. Place your stem on the end of the white felt and roll the felt around the stem two times. Hold it in place for a few seconds to help it stick. Trim off any extra felt.
Next we will assemble the body of the bluebonnet using the blue felt. Put a small strip of glue along the edge of the blue felt. Start with the end of the blue felt and stick it to the stem. You may want to cover the edge of the white felt so it looks more cohesive.
Begin to roll the blue felt diagonally along the stem. Add more glue to the blue felt and cover the stem as you go.
And that’s it! You have a beautiful DIY Texas bluebonnet. You can make several of these DIY bluebonnets to put together in a floral arrangement to display in your home.
